Can we all please stop pussy-footing around the issue of pregnancy being a dangerous and scary medical condition?
Because it is.
And if you’re taking birth control to prevent pregnancy then I would categorize that as taking BC for a valid medical reason. It’s the same as anyone taking BC for endo, cysts, hormonal imbalance, acne, etc.
I’m just sick of this underlying theme in the health insurance BC coverage debate. Women declaring that “But we’re not using it to prevent pregnancy! We have medical reasons!” They are the same thing. You are not better than the woman who takes BC primarily to prevent pregnancy simply because you take it to treat your endo.
Ok? ok.
Word to this, every time I hear this I want to say you know, before birth control over the course of a lifetime of 12-14 pregnancies (on average) 1 out of 4 women died in childbirth. Sure, childbirth is less dangerous today but it’s not risk free and is certainly body punishing. Why can’t the people on the news hear when I am yelling at them?
Agreed with all of the above. I think it’s helpful for people on the other side to be aware of all the different things birth control does, but it’s still ridiculous that in the 21st century, women—or to be more specific and accurate, people with uteruses—have to defend their right not to be pregnant or to give birth, as though we were livestock or incubators.
